For Robert Ralph, art is far more than skill and technique—it is a way to communicate thoughts, memories, emotions, and ideas. Every painting tells a story, and every brushstroke serves a purpose in capturing the essence of a subject and inviting viewers to see the world through a different lens. Through his work, Robert hopes to inspire others to slow down, appreciate the beauty that surrounds them, and embrace the precious gift of life.
Drawing inspiration from simple, often overlooked places, Robert believes that beauty is not reserved for the grand and spectacular. Instead, he finds meaning and wonder in everyday scenes that many might pass by without a second glance. His artwork encourages viewers to rediscover the extraordinary within the ordinary and to appreciate life’s quiet moments.
Although Robert discovered a love for creativity at a young age, he did not begin his artistic journey in earnest until the age of 55. After a career in welding, he traded his torch for paintbrushes, pencils, and charcoal, embarking on a new chapter of artistic exploration. A pivotal influence in this transition was his wife, Alexis, whose encouragement and unwavering belief in his potential inspired him to step outside his comfort zone and pursue his passion for art.
Whether serious or whimsical, realistic or imaginative, Robert’s work reflects a heartfelt appreciation for life, faith, and the beauty found in everyday experiences. His art serves as both an invitation and a reminder to pause, reflect, and find joy in the world around us.

The hands of FRED MILLENDER 1929-2014
“A colorful man who never met a stranger”
Fred was somewhat of a celebrity around Eastpoint. Folks were enchanted by his big personality and contagious smile. On any given day, he could be found chatting with friends or smoking mullet for local fisherman at his roadside stand. Fred was a gifted storyteller, singer and a friend to every person he met. He always had an interesting tale to tell or a song to share. Alexis and had the pleasure of spending many hours with Fred over the years as we traveled through the Florida panhandle. This painting was inspired by one of the many photos Alexis had taken during our visits. Truly our lives feel enriched by the time we were able to spend with Fred.
Born in Carrabelle in 1929, Fred Millender started working on the bay when he was just a young boy. He said it was hard work, but it was what he was called to do. His parents, Marion and Willie Mae, moved the family to Eastpoint in 1942 to open a seafood house. In 1949, Fred married the love of his life, Minnie Varnes from Apalachicola. He and his brothers worked in the business with their father until Fred decided to open his own seafood house, Fred’s Best Seafood. The seafood industry was booming in Eastpoint, and at its peak Fred had 29 boats harvesting oysters for his seafood house. Despite hurricanes and plenty of other obstacles, Fred always fought to keep the business afloat, a smile on his face, a song in heart and e deep abiding love for his “Lord and Savior Jesus”. He was as kind and generous as the day is long.
Fred passed away in 2014 at the age of 87
