Artist: Eddie Peters
Eddie’s artistic journey has long been shaped by the powerful relationship between visual imagery and music. Early in his visual arts career, he explored how lyrics, themes, and cultural narratives could be translated into paint, creating works that invite viewers to engage with ideas beyond the canvas.
Many of his early paintings drew inspiration from influential songwriters and musicians. Works examining fame, notoriety, and the fleeting nature of public attention were inspired by lyrics from Peter Gabriel, including “I’m alive” and “If Looks Could Kill.” Other paintings addressed themes of social justice and ownership, reflecting on Woody Guthrie’s iconic “This Land Is Your Land,” originally written as a response to unequal claims of territory and belonging.
Eddie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Education (BFAEd) and a Master of Arts in Education Leadership (MAEd) from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. He has also completed numerous graduate-level art courses and pursued advanced studies in Environmental Design and Landscape Architecture at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Eddie dedicated forty years to public education, serving as a teacher and mentor while continuing to develop his work as a visual artist. His lifelong commitment to both education and the arts reflects a deep belief in the transformative power of creativity, learning, and thoughtful expression.
